Consulting With Others

A consultation process which really works.


The key to consulting with others is to ensure that they own the solution(s) to their problem(s) and your task is to facilitate a problem – solving process using effective questions in a logical sequence.  Try this nine step approach:

  1. What are you wanting to achieve?
  2. What are you doing to achieve this result?
  3. Where are you succeeding?  Why?
  4. What challenges/obstacles are you trying to overcome?
  5. What have you done to overcome them?
  6. What has worked/not worked?
  7. What is the real problem you are trying to solve?
  8. What else could you do?  How would that work?
  9. What steps would you need to take to implement those ideas?
